How to use yoga blocks?

Whether you’re a regular yogi or just occasionally like doing yoga to mix up your exercise routine or simply relax and stretch your muscles, you’ve probably used or, at least, seen yoga blocks.

Maybe they’ve become a part of your routine already, but if you’ve had little to no experience with yoga blocks, it will basically change your life once you realize the many ways they can be used.

What are the benefits of using yoga blocks?

They are great for beginners in that they help you to find your balance in standing hands-to-floor poses.

Sometimes even those who have been practicing yoga for years have days when balance is nearly impossible.

One pose in particular that is difficult to hold is the Half Moon Pose (Ardha Chandrasana) as it requires you to have one arm on the ground while on leg remains parallel to the mat and the front side of your body opens so that you’re gazing at the opposite arm lifted straight above you.

It’s poses like these where you find yourself extremely grateful to have a block on hand as it shortens the distance between your arm and the floor.

Another example is the Wide-Legged Forward Bend (Prasarita Padottanasana); if you can’t get your head to touch the floor, you can use the yoga block to add weight by placing it on the floor.

Another way they are useful is in supporting tight hips and knees.

Sometimes it’s hard, even for teachers, to force your sit bones down; stacking one or two blocks on top of each other helps you not to injure yourself.

Some examples of poses like these are the Hero Pose (Virasana) and the Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana).

Men especially have tight hips, but if you also experience tension in your knees in poses like Head-to-Knee Forward Bend that require your knees to touch the mat, yoga blocks can be a lifesaver.

They’re also great for fine tuning your poses.

You can place one between your thighs to make sure your legs are properly aligned when they tend to move towards the sides, like in the Bridge Pose (Setu Bandasana) or the Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana).

Or you can put it to use in simpler poses like Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) or the Plan Pose (Chaturanga Dandasana) to ensure your legs are constantly active.

Finally, they’re great for those of you who are already flexible but want to add extra length.

What are yoga blocks made out of?

The yoga blocks you’ve probably most often seen are the foam ones. Studios tend to buy these, as they are the lightest and least expensive.

For personal use, this is ideal for traveling or taking them with you to classes.

They’re relatively durable and easy to clean, but they show wear and tear pretty quickly.

Another downside is that they’re less stable for putting lots of weight on them; they’re especially impractical for those with weak wrists who want to use them for standing poses and arm balances.

Finally, if being eco-friendly is something that concerns you, wood or cork blocks are the way to go.

Cork blocks are sturdier than the foam ones but less so than the wooden ones.

They absorb sweat and odors due to their porous nature, so it’s unlikely that you’ll see them in yoga studios, and they also crumble as they age.

As a result, they usually don’t last as long as foam or wood.

The eco-friendliest yoga blocks are the wooden ones, especially those made from bamboo, but they also come in maple and poplar.

They’re heavier than the previous two blocks, weighing between 1.5 to 2.5 pounds, but they are durable and will probably last forever.

However, they can be quite slick when your hands get sweaty, and they’re the most expensive out of all your options.

They also come in different sizes, so you’ll want to consider a few things before you grab a size for yourself, such as hand size, flexibility (if you’re not naturally flexible, you may want to invest in a taller one), and stability (if you’re shakier, wider would be the way to go).

Whatever type of block you decide makes sense for your lifestyle, you can use these in so many ways throughout your practice.

I’m sure many of you have had a situation where you’ve paid any type of membership and didn’t go to more than 2 or 3 classes.

Well, I experienced that a lot, and not because I was irresponsible, but it was just how it turned out. Really.

Here’s what happened…

I’ve always been an active person that leads a healthy life. I always tend to buy organic food, I love to cook, I walk my dog every day and most important for this review – I visit yoga classes 3 times a week.

Well, actually, I’m supposed to say those things in past sentence. I did all those things before.

Once I got accepted at my job as a financial advisor, everything in my life seemed to start taking a wrong turn.

My job included traveling very often, sometimes for weeks at a time, which meant I couldn’t visit the yoga classes I did until then.

Plus, I was staying at hotels, so I couldn’t cook for myself, nor buy my healthy groceries anymore.

I was home for the weekends, but what was I supposed to do first – see my family, friends and my dog, rest for the upcoming week, do exercise, shop, rest, date, go out…WHAT?

My life was in total chaos. I looked so composed and professional on the outside, but inside me was an emotional and psychological chaos.

Quitting was not an option for me, because I worked so hard to get to that position, but the change in lifestyle was so much to take in, that I was in utter chaos, trust me.

This resulted in me feeling tired and agitated all the time. I desperately wanted to find a way to balance everything, but I just didn’t have the time.

Yoga helped me release my body of the negative energy and be positive, so when that was taken away from me, I didn’t know how to cope with all the stress.

I stopped buying organic food and cooking since I didn’t have the time to prepare it anyway, so my weight started to go up.

Now I was faced with another problem in my life. I didn’t consider myself fat by any means, but my body wasn’t what it was before…it didn’t look as it did before.

This was a huge plus for me since I always prefer sitting on my iPad rather than the laptop or PC (but don’t we all?).

So, this meant that I probably could do yoga whenever and wherever I wanted. Like, I wouldn’t have to go out in the cold. Nor in the hot. I could just decide I wanted to do yoga NOW, and do it. Quite appealing, isn’t it?

Needless to say, with the busy schedule I had, this was perfect for me.

The Creator of YogaDownload

Anyone who has visited yoga classes even a few times will know that not everyone can be a yoga master or teach yoga.

This is why I wanted to find out who designed this website and who came up with all the classes on it. I wanted to be sure that I wouldn’t just waste my time and effort for nothing.

So, I went on their website and found that it said “Founded by people who love yoga, love music, and experience life as an extension of their practice, Yoga Download is yoga for the way you really live” which was even better than what I expected.

It wasn’t made by one person that wanted to make profits out of something, but from a group of people that look at yoga as a way of life, and want to share that lifestyle with others.

How Does YogaDownload Work

The basic principle of the website is the same as any other membership website. You need to sign in, choose the type of access you’d like, the level of yoga experience you have, and you’re good to go.

So, when I went to sign in to the website, I first had to choose which type of access I’d get. I knew that yoga classes were over $50 a month, so I made the decision not to pay a price over that.

And let me tell you people, I was shocked at how cheap the programs were.

There were 2 offers I could choose:

  • Premier which offered unlimited video streaming, 4 class downloads for free every month and 50% discount on programs and packages for $10 a month.
  • Elite which offered unlimited video streaming, unlimited free video downloads every month and free programs and packages for $18 a month.

These programs were also available to get for multiple months at a discounted price.

  • 3 months Premier for $24
  • 6 months Premier for $45
  • Yearly Elite for $90

I personally decided to go for the Elite program, the monthly one because it was the one that offered the biggest access to thing for an affordable price.

And I wanted to try it out first before getting the long-term version of it.

What’s Included in The Program

When I got my access, there were a few more choices I had to make. The next thing I had to choose was the program I was going to follow and there were 4 levels offered:

Level 1 – Beginner – designed for people with minimal or no experience in yoga, but want to start practicing it. It has all the basics explained before starting so anyone can understand how to do yoga properly before starting.

Level 2 – Experienced Beginner – yoga level for those who have a little bit of knowledge about yoga, but want to learn more about it through yoga classes.

Level 3 – Intermediate – classes for those who’ve probably visited a few yoga classes and know the basics of yoga, breathing, and movements.

Level 4 – Advanced-Intermediate – for those who are experienced in yoga and want to perform advanced poses.

Because I had a background knowledge of yoga as I mentioned previously, I decided to go for the Intermediate program.

It’s really important to choose the right program for you, since all the videos are made according to the level of knowledge you select.

There was one more thing I chose, but this was a decision I was making every time I decided to exercise. It was the level of intensity the classes were going to be.

They were specifically made for every program, so it didn’t matter which level I was on, I could always go for the type of exercise I wanted. As of now, I’ve tested each intensity and this was my experience with each one:

Ahhhhhh – Lowest Intensity – Whenever I just wanted to relax and let go of the negativity in my life, I’d go for the lowest intensity class.

After each session, I felt relaxed and more balanced, as if all the negative tension from my body suddenly disappeared. I recommend this class for anyone that as a stressful life and needs to relax.

Everyday Namaste – Low Intensity –In the beginning, the everyday Namaste exercises were a bit challenging to do, since I was really out of shape, but once I got back in it, they were a great stretching or warming up for the daily routines.

You’ll Feel It – Medium Intensity – I call these classes a nice sweat session that I enjoy. I must say they are personally my favorite because they combine everything I need – strengthening of the muscles, stretching, sweating off extra weight and releasing myself from the negativity inside me.

Bring A Towel – High Intensity – whenever I had enough time and I wasn’t exhausted, this was my go-to class. It’s designed to make you sweat like crazy, so I’d recommend you go for this one last.

There are hundreds of yoga styles included in the program, so never, not even for a second did I feel bored of exercising.

I personally LOVE the program. There are so many things I can do thanks to it, that I wouldn’t be able to do with other programs.

It’s convenient – unlike yoga classes, I can practice at the comfort of my own home, in the hotels during my travels or any other place I wanted.

Personalized training – whether you want just a quick stretch or a nice sweating, you can always choose how much and how long you will exercise for. There were also countless styles to choose from, so I haven’t managed to try out even half of them.

Affordable exercise – Yoga classes can cost up to $100 a month, while YogaDownload is $90 PER YEAR. I think I don’t even need to explain this further.

24/7 access – yoga classes are in a pre-arranged time and at a pre-arranged place, which means that if you’re busy, you’d miss the session and your money. With Yogadownload, all the videos are there, in your device (in my case my phone), so you can do yoga the minute you want to.

Professional service – The people working on the website are true professionals. I can’t even begin to explain how unified every class is. It has the perfect ambient, perfect accompanying music and wonderful yoga teachers from all over the world. I really appreciated all the attention put into all of it.

Χ No direct contact – This is one of the few things that I didn’t like. Whenever I was unable to do a pose or had some question about a technique, I didn’t have anyone to ask, which bothered me a bit. It’s always better to have someone motivate you throughout the class and give you advice.

Ah, I can’t even begin to thank this website enough because it has done so much for me.

I’ve always been one of those people that kinda wants to lead a healthy lifestyle, but kinda loves her snacks and pizza too.

When I was younger, I tried leading a healthy lifestyle, but snacks and fast foods always got the better of me.

To be honest with you, I love fries, pizza, chips and every other snack so much that they often replaced my meals.

Growing up in a southern family, life was all about Sunday lunches with the family.

Everyone knows how southerners love eating big meals filled with meat…and a lot of it. My childhood revolved around me eating big meals, both in my house and my grandparent’s house.

My Review: Here’s My Thoughts and Opinions On The Half Day Diet…

As a kid, I was always the chubby one in the family. You know, the one that the whole family loves to tease and make jokes about.

While it didn’t bother me when I was 10, once I got to puberty, I started looking at my body differently, and having someone constantly comment about my weight made me subconscious about the way I looked.

I talked to my sisters about my weight issues, but they just blamed it on puberty and said it’s normal. So, I brushed it off and hoped for the best.

Turns out they lied. I was hoping when I left puberty I would experience a sudden weight loss and amaze everyone with how hot and fit I looked.

I expected to get those “OMG have you lost weight?” or “Wow, you look so good!” comments I always wanted to, but I didn’t. And then, college time arrived.

My friends were going on dates and getting invited to parties, and I just sat there, hiding from everyone. As every other emotional eater, I found my comfort in eating.

I was so depressed about my life that I became antisocial and was just… hiding. That’s all I did.

By recommendations of my family, I went to a psychiatrist in hopes of feeling better, but all he did was prescribe anxiety medication and antidepressants, which made me feel even more tired and unwilling to do anything.

In the meantime, I got an internship as a PHP developer, something that I always wanted to do.

I now had something to focus on, so I started working all the time to prove myself to my managers, which ultimately worsened my weight problems. My schedule consisted of me studying for college or sitting in front of my laptop all the time.

When the happiness of getting my dream internship faded, the feeling of emptiness came back, but this time with a vengeance.

I didn’t only feel bad physically and have health issues, but I went into a really bad place in my mind. All because of my weight.

I realized this type of lifestyle wasn’t doing anything good, neither for my body nor for my psychological state.

I promised myself I’ll do everything I can to lose weight, which proved more difficult to do than say.

I started dieting hardcore. Like, every single diet I could find – organic diets, restriction diets, 10 meal diets, everything.

Some diets I tried I quit immediately because they took too much time in meal prepping or exercising, a time I couldn’t afford.

Benefits of the Half Day Diet

There are so many positives that I don’t know where to start.

There are just a handful of diets that let you design your food plan like this one. I’m now 3 months into dieting, lost 35 pounds (I know, wow) and I couldn’t be happier with how far I’ve come, both physically and mentally.

My weight-loss story is one that many can relate to and find themselves in. I’ve been always struggling with weight ever since I was a young girl, but nothing major.

Not until I started college.

Having to stay up late and study, being away from home and everyone I knew along with the additional stress of living alone caused me to stop paying attention to what I eat.

That’s when I gained a lot of weight, weight that I couldn’t find a way to take off.

This unhealthy style of living continued even after I graduated because I really stopped caring about my body.

You know you get to that point when you don’t bother anymore.

I worked as a server maintainer, so my job didn’t involve much physical activity, and it often required working from home.

I had a part-time job at a call-center too, so my life revolved around my laptop mostly, without much time to do any physical exercise or cook healthy meals.

Even when I did have time, it was spent with my boyfriend Eric, playing on our Xbox or watching series.

He was a major foodie and a gamer as well so that further contributed to me (and him) getting massive amounts of weight.

And I think I was going to continue with that lifestyle until that day came…I was proposed to.

I became depressed and unwilling to do anything, so I just sat at home, in my bedroom, feeling sorry for myself all day.

I began thinking I could never be happy again. Not until I lose the weight I wanted.

Ultimately, in a desperate attempt, I tried cutting down my portions to a bare minimum, which starved me to the point my health started deteriorating.

One day as I was walking down the hallway I started filling foggy and fainted.

How The Smoothie Diet Works

The way this works is that instead of eating high-calorie food that contains tons of fat and grease, I was eating only clean food, mostly fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

These gave me everything my body needs but didn’t have the harmful carbs that are bad for my body and my health.

Conclusion: Very Happy With The Smoothie Diet

Oh my. Just writing this my hands are trembling from excitement. Me and Eric finally decided on getting a date for the wedding.

Now I know that my dream of wearing that beautiful wedding dress will come true!

So, after taking the Turmeric capsules off my schedule and 4 days into my PuraThrive formula usage, I noticed some pretty unique changes. Being an accountant means that I do a lot of sitting during the day.
